From time to time, we portray an #itsawolvisfriend*.
Meet Griet, friend and owner of handbag label AESAERT.
Who are you? What do you do?
I am Griet Aesaert, 35. Just like Griet, I am an architect, but I chose to follow my passion. I design and manufacture leather handbags in my atelier in Ghent.
How are you connected to wolvis?
Griet and I often meet for lunch. To me, Griet is a very valuable sparring partner. We discuss business issues, we organise photoshoots to put each other’s products in the spotlights or we can just vent a little…
And sometimes, we create a real collaboration together: thanks to Griet, I have designed the children’s schoolbag, as an addition to her miniwolvises. Since a year or two, we’re brainstorming about the design of handbag together. To be continued… (laughs promisingly)
What do you associate wolvis with?
100% Belgian and warm. Architectural quality scarves with a story. I love these stories: if you hear what’s behind the design, the scarf gets even more meaning and depth. Through her collections, you really get to know Griet.
Who would you like to give a wolvis to? Why?
I’ve given wolvises to many people already! If you believe in something, you’d spread it as much as you can, no? I’ve given one to my mother, and my boyfriend Julien loves his two wolvis scarves.
When and how did you get to know wolvis?
In december 2013, Griet organised the first edition of Vangst, a pop-up in her house. All kinds of local designers sold their pieces there. Vangst has come to an end, but our contact has become even stronger.
What’s your favorite item from the Lieux de Mémoire collection?
When I had to choose from earlier collections, I found it very difficult. This time, without any doubt, I’ve chosen the 21st of December because it really stands out to me. It’s easy to combine with a lot of styles: a timeless piece!
How do you like to wear your wolvis? What do you combine your scarf with?
During winter, I wear my wolvis every day, with every outfit. It’s not just an accessory, it’s a statement!
Why does this scarf have a special meaning to you?
Especially the fact that Griet immediately said she knew I was going to choose this one. Funny how well she knows my taste!
What’s your most beautiful memory so far with your wolvis scarf?
There’s so many of them… I was wearing my very first wolvis when visiting the Leather Fair in Milan. A wonderful day, leaving me completely recharged.
I also cherish the memory of the photoshoot Griet did during lockdown. It was so silent on the streets, and so nice to have a little chat with Griet in that strange period.
But I think this is my most beautiful wolvis memory: my son Hervé never slept when he was a baby. I didn’t know what to do anymore, so I wrapped him up in my wolvis, using it like a baby blanket. Immediately, he fell asleep. Unbelievable!
